Welding systems in the railway industry – EN 15085
- Regulatory compliance to the technical provisions set for the rail industry requires all products involving welded joints to be manufactured by certified companies in compliance to regulation EN 15085 part 2. The application of such standard, similar to other standards normally used for the steel industry (ISO 9000 and ISO 3834), requires compliance with key provisions which, if observed, result in the production of qualitatively reliable products.
- In order to achieve the results required by the regulations it is essential that all managerial, coordination and operational personnel be involved and made aware of these issues. The full regulation text includes parts 1-3-4 and 5 which are meant as an integration and interpretation of part 2.

- Following the issue of the certificate, periodical audits are required for its maintenance (inspection and renewal audits, which may also include subsequent audits or post-audits aimed at assessing the corrective actions required during the inspection and renewal audit respectively).
- Unplanned audits may also be conducted in order to maintain the certification.
